Nokia Lumia 820 disassembly, screen replacement
If you want to buy a replacement screen, screwdrivers and other parts, you can order from us here - Nokia Lumia 820 screenTools required for disassembly: Torx 4 screwdriver, Torx 6 screwdriver, plastic tool such as a guitar plectrum or credit card.
Remove the back cover by pushing it from the top two corners, as indicated by the arrows below.
With the back cover removed, your phone should look like below. The battery will also be loose.
Now remove your sim and memory card. Three sets of screws need to be removed. These are different lengths so make sure you don't mix them up. Remove the screws circled in red first, then the ones circled in blue and lastly the screws circled in green. The battery compartment can now be lifted away from the rest of the phone.
Turn the battery compartment over and your phone will look like below. If you want to remove the headphone jack, circled near the top of the image, carefully peel it away from the back cover. It's held in place with double sided tape. The speaker, circled near the bottom of the image, can be levered free.
You can now lift the circuit board away from the rest of the phone, as shown below. To remove the earpiece, circled in red, simply lever it free.
The earpiece has now been removed. Next you need to remove the metal plate which the LCD screen is attached to. First apply heat around the edge of the metal plate for around 30 seconds, using a hot air gun or hair dryer. This will soften the adhesive tape which holds the part in place. Then carefully lever from the points circled below. Apply more heat if required.
If you need to remove the LCD screen from the metal plate, apply heat to one corner of the screen then slide something like an old credit card between the screen and metal plate. Do not lever the screen as it could easily break. Keep applying heat and work your way around the screen. The screen is stuck down very well so be patient and eventually it'll come free.
